"My name is Joan Boucher.  I am a sixty-five-year-old retired teacher.  I have exercised sporadically throughout my years but have never had a personal trainer.  My doctor cautioned me at my yearly physical that this was the time to gain some muscle strength before I reach my next decade.

I know what type of person I am when it comes to exercise.  That is...I will most likely not continue with any type of exercise regime if I'm not being pushed by someone or paying money.  I decided I needed a personal trainer.

I shared with Kyle my desire to gain muscle strength at our first meeting.  I told him of my fear of falling or becoming frail as I went on in years.  He guaranteed three things; 1) increased range of motion 2) increased core strength and balance and 3) increased muscle strength.

I have now worked with Kyle for twenty sessions.  He has used a combination of a cross trainer, weights, calisthenics, and Tai Chi to accomplish our mutual goals.  He has tailored my workouts to my current physical level and always challenges me so I can keep building muscle strength, range of motion, and core strength.  I can state emphatically that I have seen a marked improvement in all the areas that Kyle and I have worked on together.

I would highly recommend Kyle's personal training services to anyone of any age.  He is knowledgeable in his field and also has an extensive background in martial arts.  Kyle is great to work with and manages to keep our sessions interesting and fun."

Taking Kyle’s boxing class was one of the best decisions I’ve made. When I first joined the Boxing Club, I only expected to add in a new fitness routine to help me get back into shape. After a semester with Kyle, though, I have gained confidence in my own strength – not just because of the physical aspect of boxing, but because of Kyle’s motivation and emphasis on self-preservation, self-defense, and proper technique. It quickly became evident to me that he has the ability to empathize with people, and uses that ability to push people to their limits, all while fostering a fun and excitingly rigorous environment.

The sessions were structured in a way that allowed us to condition our bodies while developing our skills. Kyle worked with each person’s knowledge of technique and catered the class to best fit our needs. No matter how big the session got, he made sure to give each of us at least some one-on-one time, which was very helpful in helping us become stronger and better boxers. Kyle’s class has made a very positive impact on my life and has improved my overall quality of life.

In the year and a half I have spent learning from and working with Kyle Bennett, I have

only become more impressed by his leadership, fortitude, knowledge, and kindness. From the

outset, Kyle led a strong class. His firm directions instilled the class with a feeling of power and

determination: both the desire and the ability to push ourselves harder. Kyle made sure that

everyone was prepared for what they were expected to accomplish in the class, acknowledging

that everyone comes from a different starting point. We all had to run a mile at the start of class,

but each person takes their time at their own pace, and if someone cannot run, they can row on

the erg instead. He never started a workout without a stretch so that we could prepare our

muscles and not risk injury. While his knowledge of fighting technique and the proper structure

of a workout (warmup, stretch, workout, technique) is unfailing, he also flawlessly integrated

lessons on nutrition and self-defense. He made it known that the purpose of the class was to

learn consistency, both for our physical health and more broadly in our lives. The more that

students attended, the more familiar they would become with both the routine and Kyle, who

made an effort to learn the names of every student. During sessions, Kyle made sure that

everyone was improving and trying their hardest by checking the form and technique of every

individual. He did not let anyone fall behind. Moreover, Kyle has always given his heart to the

Wesleyan Boxing Club, ensuring its continuation by working with the most committed students

on keeping up advertising and managing the club’s budget.

Personally, I can attest to the success that follows commitment to the club. When I

started as a freshman, I was extremely daunted by the prospect of running a mile at the start of

every class. By the end of the year, I felt like I was flying through them. Showing up to boxing

consistently and taking a leadership position in the club not only made me improve my

performance in class, but inspired me to practice outside of class and refined my individual

workouts. I was motivated to become stronger and was now equipped with the knowledge of

warm-ups and workout circuits to include, as well as how to listen to my body and know when to

push harder. I saw improvement when I was able to move more quickly through warmups in

class and go through technique smoothly without thinking about each component of the boxing

stance to remember. I am grateful for Kyle’s leadership in teaching me and motivating me to be

strong, and more broadly, his commitment to Wesleyan Boxing Club, allowing students the

opportunity to learn to defend themselves and work hard.
